Art is Professor of Communications and Journalism at Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri. He earned his PhD in 1980 from Michigan State University. He is the author of numerous books and articles, including: The Praeger Handbook of Media Literacy, 2 Volumes (ABC-CLIO 2014), Media Literacy: Keys to Interpreting Media Messages, (Praeger Publications, 1995, 2001, 2007), The Dictionary of Media Literacy (Greenwood Press,1997), Approaches to the Study of Media Literacy (M.E. Sharpe, 1999, 2008), International Communications: A Media Literacy Approach (M.E. Sharpe, May, 2004), Approaches to Genre Study (M.E. Sharpe, 2006), and Handbook of Media Literacy (ABC-Clio, 2012). He is currently Vice President of the Gateway Media Literacy Partners (GMLP), a regional media literacy consortium.
